Bad Baby Name of the Week: Shylynn

I was looking forward to this week’s Bad Baby Name, to tell you the truth. I was expecting a humdinger crop (perhaps Humdinger would be one of the candidates!), but alas, they’ve let me down.

There was the Old Testament duo of Isaiah and Ezekiel, but those aren’t really bad names. Not compared to, say, Abcde (sorry, just reliving old glories there). Cheyenne took the coveted My Parents Aren’t Even Close To Being Native American (Or Aboriginal, Or First Nations, Or Indian, Or Whatever The Term Is These Days) But They Thought It Sounded Cool For Their Precious Daughter Award. I don’t think there are many Native Americans whose last name is Sato. Not to mention the girl’s got three Hawaiian middle names…

I thought about giving the grand award to a girl named Indeya, but that could be some kind of ethnic variation, and those aren’t really fair game. Same goes to Nathaly-Adamari.

So this week’s winner goes to Shylynn for Gratuitous Y-ing Of Vowels and Blatant N-Doubling.

I told you it was a weak week.

Shylynn sounds like you’re describing someone named Lynn. It’s just wrong.

Thats the name I chose for my daughter who is due in two months. I suppose a name that would be better for you is something boring and completley over used like jen or amanda? Shove it!

That is the name i choose for my baby if it is a girl because i didnt want something that would be heard alot. I think you need to get a new hobby cuz it seems like there are alot of people who agree with me.

I am 28 yrs old and My name is shylynn and it is a beautiful name. Some ppl have a hard time pronouncing it so I just tell them to call me Lynn. Its cool because its a odd and unique name.

And Shylynn reveals one of the weaknesses of the name: If you miss the ‘y’ key and hit the ‘t’, you end up with Shtlynn which is amazingly close to Shitlynn.

My name happens to be ShLynn pronounced shalin, if people dont know. I dont know who decided to add that extra Y in the spelling. I hated my name when I was younger because no one I knew had my name. But now that I am older, it’s great because my name is as unique as I am. Thanks mom! Down with the haters who have plain jane names, lol!
