Today we have the standard bumper crop of bad names like Jaylynn, Jadelynn, Kaylie, and Kayleah, so I won’t mention them.
But today we also give two awards to Excellence In Initialization to Repme K (who’s a girl) and Haylie Z.L. (who’s also a girl). Now, I don’t know if this is a typo or not (but given the excellent editorial qualities of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, I’d be surprised if it weren’t), but Repme K doesn’t have a period after her K, so I’m forced to assume that that’s her full middle name. Repme isn’t exactly a humdinger of a name either.
The Double-Barrelled Award-Award goes to Dhelanie-Psalms. If only her middle name were something like “23″, then she could star at religious services everywhere.
But the best bad baby name for this week is Skailey. It looks nice on paper, but if you say it you’ll find they’ve named their little girl Scaly! Oh poor poor girl. Or lizard. Or snake. Her name comes in with a built-in insulting nickname! Kids won’t have to come up with witty names (like “Brad Brad The Maxipad” — that was what a brother of a friend used to call me), all they have to do is call her by her proper name.
For all I know her mom had an affair with Godzilla and this is her dad’s method of revenge.
I look forward to Whaurtey, Ugleigh, and Pharteigh appearing in next week’s list.

Why oh why do people give lovely little babies names like that. They won’t be babies forever and they won’t be happy about their new name

I know that you have your freedom of speech, but if i was trying to name my daughter scaly, then i would have atleast spelled it correctly. But so far everyone seems to pronounce it correctly but you. So I was a bit upset that you would make fun of it.

Ummm I’m not entire certain whom you are taking to task here. The name Skailey, which is Kailey with an S thus the scaly pronunciation, our interpretation of the pronunciation, or the way it’s spelled?
I would certainly never allow any of my children to be named something that is used to describe a skin condition.

ok so the way it is supposed to be is kailey (like ky-lee)so with the s makes it Skailey (sky-lee) so where is scaley?? kaylee with a s would be more of a scaley.
So I feel that it is a bit sad that an adult would be the one to be making rude jokes.

Usually kye-lee is spelled Kylie ( a Gaelic name if that sort of thing interests you, ) and kay-lee is spelled Kailey ( an English name I believe, ) you cannot blame them for thinking the name should be pronounced scaly.
Either way sky-lee is not much better, but there is no metric for taste, apart from the Samwise patent-pending taste-o’meter.

This is the same patent-pending taste-o’meter that thinks Marmite tastes good, right? :)

@Brad
Wrong sort of taste I’m afraid, I believe you are confusing aesthetics with flavour.
Anyway everyone knows those who savour the umami of Marmite are the fairest and most modest in all the land.
