Last night being New Years Eve and all, everybody and their dog had firecrackers and fireworks. Our neighbours across the street were no exception, firing off masses of firecrackers. In a fit of brilliance they decided it would be fun to hang a few strings of firecrackers up in the air, lighting them at ground level and watching them pop all the way up. But what did they hang them from?
The power lines running in front of their house along the street.
When the first string burned up to the top, the power line caught on fire. It went out after a few seconds, luckily enough.
After doing this with one string they went right ahead and did it with two more.
And then did it with three more strings hanging from palm trees, bits of which caught fire as well.
This post is brought to you by the number one, being the collective IQ of our neighbours across the street.

Aloha…
I am with you on this firecracker issue. I can not stand the smoke and the noise. I am a local girl who always hated this local tradition and the people that you are speaking about could just as well be one of my family members, but I just dislike the whole thing. I hope that someday the local Fire Stations pass the law because it is dangerous… someday maybe… Now I go to the movies when they have a “pop firecracker” / “burn your money up” Day.
Take care and God bless…
Li
