It’s well-known that Io has volcanoes. There have been heaps of pictures of plumes of sulphur erupting. Still, this video of Tvashtar erupting is stunning. It’s 330 kilometers (205 miles) high! You’ve got to be kidding me!

Twenty-five years ago today, Gilles Villeneuve was killed in a horrific accident while qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix. F1Fanatic takes a good look at his six victories, including the first at the Montreal track that would later bear his name. Mark Hughes makes the point that he could have been a multiple world champion. It’s impossible to say what his career would have done, but it would have been majestic.

Time for Quotes Taken Out Of Context! From the New York Times:
In a two-page letter sent to the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Mr. Bush said his veto threat would apply to any measures that “allow taxpayer dollars to be used for the destruction of human life.”
Looks like Bush just said he’d veto any kind of military spending bills. Who knew Bush was such a peace-monger?

The US House of Representatives recently passed a bill giving sexual orientation ‘hate crime’ protection. Similar legislation is moving through the Senate. The White House has said that President Bush could veto it on constitutional grounds.
That last sentence pisses me off, but not as much as this:
But Dr. James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, a conservative lobbying group, told listeners to his radio program that the bill’s real purpose was “to muzzle people of faith who dare to express their moral and biblical concerns about homosexuality,” according to The Associated Press.
Express your moral and biblical concerns all you want, dumbass. It’s called “freedom of speech”. But if you preach hate towards homosexuals and then go out and beat one to death, then that’s a hate crime. Seriously, Dobson needs to shut his piehole once in a while. Yes, you have the freedom to say whatever the hell you want, however dumb it is, but you should exercise your freedom to shut the hell up a lot more often, Dobson. Take your pseudo-Christian bullshit and just let it stew inside your hollow, empty, bitter little mind and leave the rest of us alone.
Black people can’t help being black, and they get hate crime protection. Gay people can’t help being gay, but they don’t get protection? Where’s the justice in that?

His name is Christopher and he’s going to kill himself for peace.
Christopher, you’re a big fat moron.
Oh, and spot the flaw in this statement:
On May 3rd, 2007, at 3:07 PM PST in front of a busy gas station in Livermore, CA, I am going to kill myself for peace to prove the futility of fighting a War for Peace. Shortly afterwards, I will read a statement regarding my sacrifice. It will basically say, “Chris died for peace.”
Edit: I originally stated this this schmuck’s name was Christopher Hitchens, who may or may not be a moron. However, the Christopher Hitchens that is relatively famous is not going to FLAME ON! In fact, the first Christopher didn’t put a last name. I had Hitchens on the brain because I was reading that other blog story while posting this.
