For those following along at home, Hurricane Flossie is about 18 hours from making its effects fully-felt on the Big Island. In preparation, we (as in Alice and I) have one 3 gallon bottle of water, 32 500mL bottles of water, cans of beans, tuna, and soup, boxes of crackers, containers of nuts, some hot dogs, a well-stocked fridge, and a can opener.
We also have a half bottle of Grey Goose, two bottles of wine, two bottles of DiSaronno, two bottles of rum (one golden, one coconut), two more bottles of vodka, a bottle of Kahlua, a bottle of Cointreau, a bottle of creme de cacao, a bottle of Bailey’s, and five bottles of beer. And most importantly, a bottle opener.
We have a charcoal camping stove, plenty of matches and candles, a battery-operated radio, two or three flashlights, plenty of batteries, board games, books, and about eight decks of cards.
We’re currently under a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch. Schools, parks, and county/state/federal buildings are all closed tomorrow. My workplace is currently still open, although I have a feeling most people will be staying home.
Follow along with the Central Pacific Hurricane Center and the County of Hawai’i Civil Defense.
See you on the other side of Flossie!

Booze, games, spouse, food.
Take pictures? :)
Seriously, though, be safe. Update us when you can.

Sounds like sanity and well-preparedness are in abundance there. Good luck, and hold onto something! Keep us posted as you are able.

Good move, stocking up on the booze like that. Most people, when faced with imminent demise, wouldn’t have the wherewithal to remember necessities such as that.
Be safe out there. I hope it ends up being more fun than frightening.
