When leaving Hilo northbound along Highway 19, the first bridge you cross is the Singing Bridge over the Wailuku River. Just past it on the right is Bayshore Towers, where I lived for my first year or so in Hilo.
The other night I had some time to kill downtown, and since it was getting dark I thought I’d try my hand at some long-exposure photos. This photo was one of the results.
It probably would have turned out better had I been 15 feet taller. Oh well.

That’s wonderful! I’ve been meaning to try this out myself, but haven’t gone and hunted myself up a perch for it yet.

For years I’ve wanted to take a really good photo of the singing bridge, but haven’t figured out where to take it from. Perhaps hiring a boat is the answer…

That’s a nice image Brad. A bit tighter on the composition would improve it a touch IMHO, but that’s really nice.
It sounds like you’re beating yourself up about the photo, don’t! Or is it that you think you’re short? You’re not short, you’re just average!

Not a bad photo, but you are right, looking down a bit more would show the roadways and more lights from passing traffic. I do not recall any such vantage point.
Much of downtown Hilo is ripe for long exposure photography after dark. What about the trestle bridge behind the singing bridge with the waterfall?

Apparently I’m a spammer and can’t comment here. Oh well, I said something about trying to take a picture of the singing bridge myself but I can’t remember what it was now, old age and all that.
Let’s see if this comment gets through.

@Antonio
Nah, I’m not beating myself up, I just wish I had a ladder.
@Andrew Cooper
I hadn’t thought about that bridge, actually. It doesn’t get much traffic at night, which is probably why I didn’t think of it at the time. It’s a short walk from the singing bridge so it’d definitely be worth a shot.
