Back in 2003 I attended O’Reilly‘s Open Source Convention (OSCON) in Portland, Oregon. One of their events was an O’Reilly authors book signing. You could bring in your favourite O’Reilly book (like Programming Perl) and get it signed for free!

But who’s going to bring along a big clunky programming book to a conference? I sure didn’t, and I wasn’t about to buy a book I already had just to get someone to sign it.

A couple of days earlier I’d gone to Powell’s Books where I picked up a used copy of David Brin‘s “Earth“.

…which I used to get signatures!

The signatures I can recognize are from Larry Wall, Nat Torkington, Damian Conway, and Wil Wheaton.

I have three unidentified signatures though. One shows up on the same page as Larry Wall and Nat Torkington, and two show up on their own page. If you know who these people are, please leave a comment!

I’m going to have to remember to take my signature book to the next OSCON I go to so I can get more signatures. Maybe, just maybe, eventually I’ll get David Brin’s signature!
